Frequently Asked Questions
What does IMAGO DEI mean?
IMAGO DEI means "image of God". We believe that human beings were created in the image of a creative/creator God, a God who not only fashioned all that exists in the beginning, but who also engages in creatio continua - ongoing creative acts sustaining the universe. Since human beings are created in the image of God, we have a responsibility to foster and develop the creative dimension of our nature.
Does IMAGO DEI have a specific religious affiliation?
IMAGO DEI: Friends of Christianity and the Arts is an ecumenical organization. It seeks to bridge the gulf between historic Christian traditions based on the ecumenical potential of the arts themselves. We are a Christian arts organization, as opposed to an inter-faith or religious arts organization. Although our programming and interests will from time to time concern the development and practice of the arts in other religious tradions, our principal focus is on the manner in which the arts function in Christian life and witness.
Who can participate?
The organization includes musicians, visual artists, actors and actresses, dancers, architects, poets, storytellers, writers, and all other artists. It also includes pastors, worship committees, arts committees, and Christian laity. We seek to establish no barriers. Anyone who has an interest in the topic of Christianity and the arts is welcome to participate.
Can I join IMAGO DEI?
Yes. We are a membership organization. Anyone can join. We offer both individual and supporting memberships. See further details under "membership" at this site.
What is the mission of IMAGO DEI?
